Wick App - AI Learning

Project overview
Maximal Learning (the team behind Wick.app) is an innovative educational platform focused on optimizing student learning experiences. I joined as a Product Designer at a critical turning point: the product didn't just need a UI overhaul, it needed a sustainable ecosystem.
My primary objective was to build a complete visual transformation of the platform and build a comprehensive Atomic Design System from the ground up. The goal was to bridge the gap between the design team in the USA and the engineering team in Egypt, improve design consistency, and scalability.
The challenge
When I arrived, the team was moving fast, but the design debt was catching up. Without a single source of truth, the UI began to feel disjointed, risking confusion for the students we were trying to support.
With the design team in the US and developers in Egypt, the 7-to-10-hour time difference created a "black hole" in communication. Decisions often stalled for 24 hours, and handoffs were prone to misunderstandings.
Without a centralized source of truth, the UI had become a patchwork of inconsistent styles, which risked alienating the students we were trying to support.
Results & impact
I worked closely with the Head of Design to audit our existing pain points and define a roadmap. Together, we presented a strategic vision to the CEO and CTO, outlining how a design system wouldn't just make things "look better," but would fundamentally accelerate our business goals.
To ensure this system actually worked in the real world, I treated the developers as my primary users:
I built the system from the atoms up. Every token and component was designed to be modular, ensuring that the UI overhaul was baked into the very DNA of the platform.
We synchronized our worlds. By establishing a unified Naming Convention and a Branching Strategy, our Figma files finally mirrored the GitHub codebase. If a task was #402 in Dev, it was #402 in Design.
The result was a total transformation of both the product and the culture:
Within just 2 months, we successfully recreated the entire product UI and fully integrated the new design system.
By eliminating the "guesswork" between time zones, we boosted development velocity by 30% and live product consistency by over 90%
